Hardest Hitting Team of All Time?

I have been searching for this gif of Marshawn Lynch since the moment he railroaded Dashon Goldson in the first quarter of last week's game. It took a while but like a run from Lynch you can always expect me to finish strong!  What was Goldson thinking?  I know it was a shortened week but did he skip out on every film session?  I don't even think a linebacker wants any part of Lynch.  Why would a defensive back even think to take on Lynch above the ankles? I suspect he will approach a tackle like this differently in our rematch.  Can you think of a team that has ever been this hard hitting?  Of course there are historically hard hitting defensive teams but think about the team as a whole.  None of these players are even defensive. THIS IS OUR OFFENSE!!! We all know without the assistance of a gif how hard our defense hits.  Come to think of it, send me a URL of a gif for one of our defensive players and I will add it to this collection of amazing hits.

Sourdough in San Francisco

It's a well known fact that San Francisco makes the world's most famous sourdough. Its the unique air in the Bay Area that has higher than average yeasts and lactobacilli cultures that feed the sourdough during its leavening.  I don't understand this process anymore than the average fellow but what I do know is that same air in San Francisco must have been the reason for my sour feelings in the 2nd half of Thursday night's game. Speaking of sour feelings is this why Jim Harbaugh is quickly becoming one of the least liked people in the NFL. I used to think he was great but now I just can't stand the camera on him.  Does the air in San Fran have this affect on everything?

Anyway, back to my sour feelings.  Was it just me or did the Seahawks look to be controlling the game from the beginning?  Our #1 ranked defense looked like they were well number 1. They were in control and doing their thing like only they can do.  Our offense marched down the field like the 49ers had the 25th ranked defense not the 5th ranked.  Minus the drop by Robert Turbin, who I will continue to state is one of my favorite players in a draft that I think we did very well.  In fact on draft weekend I was most excited about our Robert Turbin pick.  Now it's a toss up between Wilson, Wagner, Turbin or even Irvin.  What a draft!  Back to the drop.  That was painful.  I think Turbin would have bulldozed his 28inch biceps into the endzone for a touchdown had he kept those normally soft hands on the ball. It was game 7 and his first mistake. 

I'll let it slide but I do think that changed the development of the game.  At some point in the near future our Seahawks need to stop kicking field goals and punch the ball in for 6pts.  Until we can consistently  score touchdowns we will be looking at Wilson and our defense in the 4th quarter to save us.

Speaking of Wilson, if I hear anyone over the next week and a half complain about his passing yards I'm going to actually mirro Jim Harbaugh's look in the above picture and believe me I want no part of modeling anything Jim Harbaugh related.  Wilson was posed, mature, accurate and spectacular throughout the game.  I know, I get it, he only through for 130 yards and a 103 were in the first half.  That stat line is terrible but did you watch the game?  Did you see Obomanu fall in the open field?  That may have gone for a TD.  Did you see Moore drop what looked like an impossibly perfect pass along the sidelines?  Did you see Golden Tate drop a 3rd and 2 to start the second half?  That may have been the most damning drop of them all.  The Seahawks were marching down the field like the 49ers were soft butter on a piece of that warm sourdough bread.  We had TD in our eyes and all Tate was focused on was whether a maple bar doughnut is tastier than a slice of sourdough!  Until Tate starts catching deep balls I don't want to see his arms go up questioning why there was no flag thrown.  Tate...you got your one dream call against the Packers.  Don't rely on the refs to give you a catch.  You better make it on your own or else you will be working a normal 40 to 50 hour work week like the rest of us soon.  I'm already brainstorming your replacement in this next year's draft!

Last thought. I was shockingly disappointed in the Seahawk defense.  I was surprised beyond my expectations that the 49ers ran the ball on us like they did.  I get it, Gore has our number.  I don't understand it but I have grown to expect it. What happened to our dominant defense in the 2nd half?  It wasn't just Gore.  It was those little dump off passes in the middle that really killed us.  I was very impressed with our ability to stop Vernon Davis but not at the expense of letting Alex Smith feel comfortable and confident in the passing game.  I would have liked to have seen a DE not rush but sit in that intermediate zone and wait for Alex Smith to check down.  He had no intention of passing deep he was just buying time for clearance in the middle.

Nonetheless, if we all learned one thing it is that the Seahawks have no reason to fear anyone.  My dream for this year was to jell, to build a culture and trust around 1st and 2nd year players.  Have we done this?  Oh yes and far better than I expected by game 7.  Let's focus on the good and let's count the days down until we can see more Marshawn Lynch running over the aging 49er secondary.

Sherman Talking Smack?

What is your opinion of the smack talk delivered to Tom Brady following the game?  Don't get me wrong I was getting pretty burnt up when I saw Brady motioning to the 12th man with his hand to give him more noise.  But I also feel like Brady is one of, if not, the classiest players in the NFL.  Think about the number of big game losses he has suffered recently and tell me if you would handle it as well as he has.  I, for one, would not be able to.  I struggle with a Fantasy Football loss so how can I compare myself to the likes of Tom Brady losing in the Super Bowl after a perfect season or losing a Super Bowl following a dropped pass by his most trusted wrs?

My wife, as I imagine many wives out there get a little more interested and excited about football when Tom Brady is involved.  Don't get the wrong impression she is a TRUE SEAHAWK through and through but I'm not too proud to say I fully understand that her interest peaks when Tom Brady is involved.  My philosophy is that Tom Brady has helped me watch, discuss and enjoy more football.  And for that I will welcome him into my home any Sunday.

The opponent was the Seahawks...it wasn't the crowd or the weather or the refs. It was the Seahawks and we lost to a good football team. They certainly play well at home. We had an opportunity and we just didn't get it done."

If Brady thinks this way, we must be doing something right!! Maybe our luck has spiked and the Patriots has fallen... Of course, its not luck, it comes down to... me.  Yes- my energy this season is so powerful that the hawks can feel their 12th woman cheer them on :) Just playing.  Their skill is clearly growing and thanks to the positive energy of Pete, everything is looking up!!!

Frustrating Loss

Yes, frustrating but am I as frustrated as the Dallas Cowboy fan that I recently posted?  No, infact disappointed may be a better way to describe the feeling I had following the outcome of the Ram game.

It's not that I think the Rams are bad.  My feelings of disappointment stem from the excitement, the momentum and the aspirations I have seen grow within my hopeful soul.  I did not see the Rams as a team we could just walk into a nearly empty stadium and beat.  They, no matter who the coach is, play the Seahawks very tough.  Back in the days with Tory Holt, Isaac Bruce and Marc Bulger I understood the battles.  Both teams were good, both teams could move down the field quickly and both teams were respected throughout the NFL.

But what about now?  I have never understood that while the Rams were the armpit of the league the Seahawks still played them close. Granted it's not like the Seahawks were much better over the past few years.  Nonetheless, what happened on Sunday?  Why did this happen? And most importantly how do we keep this sort of offensive performance from peaking it's very ugly head out again...ever!

Of course I've heard opinions ranging from my cousin to people on the radio and even President Obama (okay, I lied there) that Matt Flynn should be plugged in immediately.  All I have to say is this is crazy, irrational thinking.  No offense to this sort of thinking but maybe I am equally  as crazy for thinking that Russell Wilson needs to be our guy all year.  We need to see what he can do through thick and thin for 16 games.  When Pete Carroll decided to name Wilson the starter he decided to roll with the ups and downs of a rookie.  I'm sticking with my original statement that Matt Flynn should be traded.  Nothing against Flynn but what is the point of having him on the roster next year?  Please feel free to defend him and his place on the team in the comments. I say get a younger and taller prospect in the draft and cut ties with Flynn prior to the draft.

Okay, I got off track with the source of our loss.  Of course some of the blame falls on the shoulders of Wilson but does it stop there?  No way!  The offensive line is great in a rushing formation but what about pass protection?  We need to see a more clean passing pocket and a whole lot less empty referee pockets!  What is going on with the false starts and the late hits?  These need to stop asap.  I like a tough physical team as much as the next fan but modeling the FREAKING Raiders philosophy is the last thing I ever want to do.  Let's clean this up asap.

As for our wrs... can we get some separation?  I get it, these guys are not top tier players at their position but can't someone get past the safety or behind the linebackers?  Can we find the soft spot in a zone?  I know Baldwin has not been healthy but is he the biggest surprise so far on this team?  Is this purely a chemistry problem between Wilson and Baldwin or is there something we are not aware of at the present moment.  I'd like to see Sidney Rice be able to make a catch steaking down the sideline or on a post.  I'd like to see Golden Tate be used like Percy Harvin.  Get him the ball 10 times a game, he is a natural athlete that can move more fluidly than anyone on the team.  No offense to Lynch or Turbin as they were spectacular against the Rams.  Their game is more of the bulldozer variety and I don't want to change a thing about them.

Last, I cannot let the defense off the hook.  While they have been as good as advertised and met all my expectations we just simply cannot continue to give up big 3rd down plays.  How are we the beasts of the west on 1st and 2nd down but not on 3rd?  Can we dial up some stronger pass rush schemes on 3rd down?  Why are we rushing 3 players most of the time on 3rd down?  I want to see some 4 or 5 man fronts that will keep a quarterback like Sam Bradford from completing 15-20 yard passes on 3rd down.  LET''S DIAL THIS UP!

And last our special teams finally let us down.  While they have been very strong and kept us in all of our games they down right were outdone by the Rams.  Their rookie field goal kicker looks geared up to be the Josh Brown killer that the Seahawks once used against the Rams.  Let's not provide short fields via an onside kick from now on. And the fake field goal turned touchdown?  That left me in a Chris Carter, Keyshawn Johnson COME ON MAN moment!!!  Take that away and give the Rams a field goal and the Seahawks win 13 to 12.  That just hurts.

We could be sitting here talking about being 3-1 but instead we are 2-2.  Can you say 3-1 once more because it sounds so nice.  Alright Seahawks, let's show Cam Newton this weekend how the new NFC West feels on the East Coast.  No East coast let down. Prediction: Panthers 10 Seahawks 17

Russell Wilson is More Than a Football Player

Okay, if you are a Seahawk fan it's pretty impossible to dislike Russell Wilson.  But when I truly evaluate a player I like to look at who the person is as well.  We all know from basic game time comments and talk radio that Russell Wilson is special.  Over the next week or so I would like to actually dig in and do some real homework on who he is and how he has become the player and person he is today.  In the mean time check out this Levi commercial. There isn't a lot of Levi promoting going on in the commercial but that I think is the beauty of it.  How many commercials can motivate a guy to blog and push it onto his site?  Nice work.  Very well put together.  Go Seahawk! Go Russell Wilson...on the field and off the field!

This was an exciting week of voting on the poll.  I don't know who participated but it was cool to see some new numbers.  My goal is to get up to 20 votes with these fantasy related polls.  As I would expect it is a little easier to cast your vote if you are winning and thus we see the highest number with a 1-0 record after week 1.  I was one of the 1-0 votes but sadly I was not the scored over 200.  I have yet to crack that number this year even after week 2.

Boys to Men

Hello Boys, I know you came into Seattle with all the mass media hyping you up.  The NFL sounded ready to crown you the next Super Bowl Champion after taking down the NY Giants.  ESPN, Ed Werder, Skip Bayless and everyone but Mike Sando had the Boys winning. Their only fear was that maybe the Boys would be looking past the Seahawks or maybe their head wouldn't be in the right place. Enter Golden Tate who either mistakened Mr Lee for a giant doughnut or he served notice to the rest of the league that the Seahawks are no joke.  There are no boys in Seattle...just players that are here to prove they are men!  The only surprise about the Seahawks this weekend was that they didn't end Sunday night 2-0.  The Seahawks are legit and the Packers better know it.  Look out NFL, if you didn't get the memo this week the NFC West is the new division!

Fantasy Ratings Week 2

 Check out this week's fantasy projects.  Rather than posting something that shows the projected points which is very specific to the league you are in I decided to post ratings to help you make better decisions if you happen to be lucky enough to have multiple players within the top 16 to 17 spots.  Good luck.

Is it a bird, is it a plane is it Superman that John Moffitt is looking up at?  No, its our hope of getting back on track and winning a very big game.  I'm usually known for being a little too dramatic and sensitive to what has recently happened.  To steal a common phrase by everyone's least favorite ESPN pundit Skip Bayless,  I may even go as far as describing myself as a "prisoner of the moment". That being said I think this is a very big game.  Not because it's the Boys in town.  That is big for Dallas fans but for the rest of us we just see them as a team from a big state.  We certainly don't see them as a big team.  And even further my generation should never describe them as America's Team.  That phrase forces a little up-chuck in my mouth every time I hear it.  While I've professed my love for T.O. before on this blog I was never about to adopt the Cowboys as my team.  While I like Romo and I currently have Dez Bryant on my fantasy team you will not see me for a second smile or cheer if the Cowboys do anything well on Sunday.  I am all Seahawk all the time!

Now getting back to the Seahawks and the importance of this game.  What do we need on Sunday?  We need big John Moffitt and his nastiness to get aggressive, to be the mauler and bulldozer he showed signs of being during his rookie year.  I don't want to poo poo on the J.R. Sweezey story as it was really exciting and notable but it's time to open up lanes for Marshawn, provide protection for Wilson and downright dominate the line of scrimmage. Moffitt was a man beast last year and I expect to see

The Beast control the game on Sunday because Moffiitt is back.  Will this change make all the difference we need?  Most likely no but I think Wilson will be more posed and confident right from the start.  Could we really expect a rookie qb to feel comfortable in the first quarter of his first NFL game?  I don't think so.  Then when you see a 6-4 290 lbs Darnell Dockett in Wilson's face all day long you have to wonder how the Seahawks were even close at the end.  I give the Seahawks a lot more credit than the sports radio hosts have been this week.  We are one dropped pass by _______ fill in the blank (Rice, Baldwin, Edwards) from winning the game in.  Dare I say that my favorite T.O. might have caught that last pass?  What about Kellen Winslow?  Who knows?  What we do know is that the Seahawks and the offensive line need to get it done this week because it won't get any easier next week with the Packers.  Let's get back on the right track.  Let's be loud 12th man!  Let's win!!!    

Seahawks Defensive Backfield The Press Corner

Here we are at the cusp of a new season.  We have spent the last seven months thinking about the draft, who to re-sign, what possible free agents to acquire and the like.  All the while, every Offensive Coordinator in the NFL has been devising new ways of putting points up on the board.  This is a copycat league, remember when the 2008 Miami Dolphins unleashed the WildCat formation and almost every team tried to implement it the next year.  Well, with the Patriots success with the Twin TE set last year and the emergence of Jimmy Graham and the “Joker TE” you can rest assured many teams will be on the bandwagon in 2012.  The NFL is now a passing league, gone are the days of ‘Ground Chuck’  --- you remember 3 yards and a cloud of dust.  So what is a defense to do?  I believe Pete Carroll has seen the writing on the wall and has been waiting for the right pieces to show off his idea on how to defeat today’s passing attack.

The Seattle Seahawks have invested a lot of resources into their backfield since Pete Carroll and John Schneider (PCJS) strolled into town.  29% of all their draft picks over the past three drafts have been on Defensive Backs (8 out of 28).  You want more numbers - how about 22% of their UDFA signings as well (10 of 46).  Now that we have established how important DB’s are to this Defense let’s get into the why.  The Seahawks Defense is predicated on stopping the run with three huge down linemen (Mebane, Branch, Big Red), an undersized LEO, Clemmons, and an active Mike who only has to watch two gaps.  They are the blue-collar tough guys that make the magic in the Secondary possible.

The Seahawks Defensive Backfield consists of three key elements and one irreplaceable player: Press Corners, Slot Corners, a Heavy Nickelback, and Earl Thomas.  In this series I will give you my take on how they are used within the scheme.

Press Corners: Brandon Browner (6’4 - 221), Richard Sherman (6’3 - 195), Jeremy Lane (6’0 - 190), Byron Maxwell (6’1 - 207)

            Today’s NFL offenses are predicated on speed and timing.  Watching Aaron Rodgers throw a back shoulder pass is a beautiful thing…especially when the receiver doesn’t even look for the ball until just before it gets to him.  The Seahawks upset this speed and timing by crowding the opposing receivers at the line, which they all hate,

and knocking them off of their route tree.  As the QB goes through his progressions the receivers’ are not at the depth or position they should be, which causes them to go to their next target or throw a pass that they haven’t practiced a thousand times.

 Many teams implement press coverage into a Cover-2 zone.  Basically the Cornerback will press, or impede the advancement of the Receiver for the first 5 yards.  If the receiver continues a sideline route the Corner will stay with him for 15 yards before giving way to a Safety.  What makes the Seahawks press corners’ unique, aside from their size, is the ability to play man coverage.  The Seahawks Corners are tasked with not only putting a hard press on the opposing Receiver, but also to stay with them no matter what route they may run.  This keeps Kam Chancellor free to read the play: Sniffing out Screens and Draw’s.   The Seahawks DB’s are bigger and stronger than anything a lot of these wide receivers have faced, causing quite a frustrating day for the opponent’s.   Check out this link from Fieldgulls.com to see what Brandon Browner brings to the table: http://i747.photobucket.com/albums/xx116/ncernst/Rams/Brownerdoublemove.gif

    After seeing that mauling of Brandon Gibson it is easy to imagine that a referee could throw the flag on just about any play...But, with him getting inside the head (and shorts) of Gibson it is also easy to surmise why Pete Carroll is willing to take those penalties from time to time.  It's all about creating an attitude on defense - which has been missing since the day's of Rufus Porter, Jacob Green and Cortez Kennedy.

I can't believe it but I'm in on Russell Wilson

Let me tell you a little story about myself.  I grew up in Washington but recently moved to New York/New Jersey.  I work at a technology firm where we create universal marketing tools for anyone between ma and pa shops to fortune 500 companies.  When I first created this blog I was able dedicate some time to writing in this blog daily.  Recently I have not been able to do much so I apologize for my lack of dedication.  After watching last nights game from the east coast...what a treat for me, I decided I need to find time to rededicate myself.  You see in April I may have been the most outspoken hater of our 3rd round pick.  That's right, I watched every round of the draft.  I read nearly every article I could find.  As I have a tech job I sat at my desk with headphones on getting more and more annoyed everyday that Brock and Salk had serious man crushes on Wilson.  My man crush was of course Andrew Luck and to a much lesser degree Brock Osweiler. I was not shy in saying exactly who I wanted and what round I wanted them in.  I may not be able to quote myself verbatim at this point but I must have said something like "all I want is for the Seahawks to not draft Russell Wilson."

Okay, I feel terrible about saying that.  It wasn't personal, I always thought he was a great person, I just happen to be old school with my approach to what a qb needs to be.  I like them 6-3 to 6-5 and 225ish.  I think a strong man is a man that can admit when he is wrong.  While this is still preseason so I should set my Koolade cup down for a few more weeks; I have to be up front and clear my guilty conscious. I was wrong.  Pete got another pick right.  I think we found ourselves another gem.  Keep up the great focus, energy and performance. You are a very likable player and honestly I think a budding star that the whole country will fall in love with soon.  Not even ESPN can avoid the Seahawks with Wilson as our starter.

A Decade Long Dream is Answered in Seattle

What is the worst thing about being Sleepless in Seattle?  Well it could be counting the rain drops, it could be tossing and turning over the traffic on I-5, it could be wondering why Starbucks has so much extra caffeine in their regular cup of Joe.  Those would all be likely thoughts for a "normal" person on a Sleepless in Seattle night but as many of my friends have pointed out I'm not "normal" those are not the Sleepless in Seattle thoughts that I have.  My loss of sleep is precipitated and accompanied by thoughts of Terrell Owens a.k.a. T.O.. Does anyone out there have any idea how many days or in this case nights I have spent dreaming about the opportunity to pop some popcorn and see my favorite player suit up in my beloved Seahawk uniform?  I had no reason to ever dream this dream but I couldn't help myself.  There's never been any signs that T.O. would come to the great Pacific Northwest and be part of what I biasly consider the best team in the NFL. I fully understand that I may be part of a rare breed but I am a proud breed who loves me some me quotes.  I love the passion, the effort, the show, the TD's the muscle and power behind every stiff arm #81 gives to his unsuspecting foe.  All of the thoughts, conversations, texts, fantasy football banter and dreams I've had for the past 8 years were answered yesterday. No longer do I have to satisfy my love for T.O. with a draft pick in Fantasy Football. After a full year away from the game, T.O. and the Seahawks have made my real life fantasy come to life.  This dream of mine will come true and play out for 17+ weeks this year and with his skill set I fully expect another year following this one.  Welcome to Seattle my friend. You have found at least one set of open arms. I love me some me for loving you some you!  My popcorn is ready, are you ready for the 12th man? We will cheer you like you have never been cheered before. As if I wasn't already trying to get tickets to the Seahawk vs. 49er game.  The story lines are forming as I type.  T.O. vs Randy Moss.  T.O. puts in a MVP performance against his previous NFC West employer. Pete Carroll one-ups Jim Harbaugh as T.O. flourishes and Randy Moss pouts.  I've never been more excited to be a Seahawk fan!!!

Seahawk Seating Advice?

Okay everyone I need a little help.  Lizzy and I, as well as anyone we can recruit, really want to go to the Sunday December 23rd game against the greatest NFC West foe 49ers.  We really want to see their immediate reaction to a loss and the sudden walk of shame after just realizing that 2nd place in the division is the best they can achieve!  

Currently this is the available seating chart.  I have a couple questions for those of you who have attended more games here than I have and know the best areas. Okay, I've only had the pleasure of attending 2 games so Adam, Sarah, Kasy, Travis and anyone else I am all ears.  Our budget is minimal so keep that in mind for any advice.  I would say $125.00 is about max price. 

1st question is what side will the Seahawks be standing on the top or bottom?  

2nd question is why are there seats available in the first ring (Dark Blue) near the 5 yard line above and the goal line below?  These seats seem somewhat affordable $125.00.   

3rd question is where would you sit if $125.00 was your max?
4th question is what area would you avoid no matter how affordable the ticket is?
5th question is anyone interested in joining us at this rival game!?  The more people the more fun!!!
